Meet Frederique Olivier @pagodroma

Based in Hobart and France, working worldwide. Fred started her career as a marine biologist with a PhD in Antarctic ecology before transitioning into cinematography. With over 20 years experience in wildlife documentary production, Fred is an extreme environment specialist, with extensive experience in the polar regions.

Fred has overwintered twice on year-long projects to film Emperor penguins for BBC Planet Earth (2005) and BBC Spy in the Huddle (2013) and crossed Greenland by ski filming for National Geographic.

Fred equally thrives filming in deserts, tropical rainforests and coral reefs. Most of her work has been in natural history (BBC, National Geographic, PBS, Netflix), and various human documentaries (BBC Science, Nat Geo, ABC, SBS), plus many conservation and educational programs often combining expedition and camera work.

In 2018 Fred won the UK GTC Award for Excellence in Cinematography for BBC ‘Spy in the Snow’ and shares an Emmy for cinematography for BBC ‘Spy in the Wild’.
